Superheroes tend to have incredible powers, bordering on the impossible, even impractical. It is their superhuman abilities that attract fans towards them. However, even the most devoted worshippers of superhero genre find certain characters way out of the ‘credibility’ league in the comics itself. So, we have listed Top 10 Overpowered Superheroes.
Telekinetic X-Men member Jean Grey possesses impressive powers in her own standards. However, tapping into the Phoenix Force grants her abilities beyond those of any mortal hero. Her powers include heightened Telepathy & Telekinesis (well beyond the level of the mighty Professor X), god-like cosmic abilities such as matter manipulation, controlling life force, interstellar travelling and bending space-time continuum. Sounds too much? She can resurrect herself as well as other dead beings.
9 Silver Surfer
Norrin Radd agreed to work for Galactus in return for sparing his world Zenn-la and was endowed with the Power Cosmic to become Silver Surfer. Acting as a herald for Galactus, Surfer now travels the cosmos, scouting viable planets for his master to feed upon.
Using a surfboard-like vehicle, the interstellar traveller can move at speed of light, convert matter into energy, read minds and even look into the distant future! He fights with cosmic force bolts capable of destroying entire planets and can perceive life energy light years away in distant planets.
8 Franklin Richards
This guy takes the deal to a whole new level. Son of Mr. Fantastic & Invisible Woman, Franklin can rewrite reality and make his thoughts come alive. Classified well beyond the Omega Level of mutants, the immortal Richards’ powers are on the same level as the Dark Phoenix or Galactus who can warp reality, control astral plane and bend space time continuum. In Fantastic Four #604, an adult Richards is able to defeat 2 Mad Celestials and resurrect Galactus himself!
7 Martian Manhunter
DC pitched in the newcomer alien without a planet to balance Superman’s ‘lone alien’ rank in the Justice League. MM shows a plethora of powers including super strength, endurance, flight, and shape-shifting, much in par with the Kryptonian.
However, his perspective is different from Superman-somewhat bordering on humility. It is his powers that make us wonder why the entire Justice League is even necessary when we have Green Lantern, Batman and Aquaman all rolled in one!
6 Dr. Manhattan
The walking atomic bomb from the Watchmen series embodies the powers of multiple suns in a single physique where nuclear fusion and fission occur simultaneously. Immortal and indestructible, he has powers of self-destruction and self-resurrection.
Energy manipulation and space-time travel are some other features he has shown time and again. Perhaps, the only non-human superhero who has attained godlike divinity with his own philosophical approach to his existence.
5 Professor Xavier
The founder of the X-Men has to be included in this list for his mysterious psychic abilities that outclass any Omega mutant, and perhaps, making him the closest contender to Phoenix. Capable of reading & freezing minds, Professor X scans the planet using the Cerebro technology that multiplies his powers 50-fold.
In spite of the fact that he sends his students to fight forces of evil he can render all of them inert with a frown. Hence the paraplegic mutant is a real force to be reckoned with.
4 Phantom Stranger
Strictly speaking, the Phantom Stranger is not a hero, and he acts more of an observer than actively taking part in the events of the universe. He appears in critically dire situations to guide the eponymous hero’s to victory.
The trench coat-clad identity is shrouded in mystery, but he has shown powers equivalent to a divine being such as, interdimensional travel, teleportation, immortality and sorcery- all which make Doctor Strange look like a fool.
3 SHAZAM/ Captain Marvel
The young Billy Batson literally becomes a God, enabled with mythic powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, making him strong, invulnerable, clairvoyant, fast, and magical. On par with Superman, Shazam is resistant to magic and hurls thunderbolts like Thor (Marvel comics).
It is almost like a perfect package of superhero goodies that anyone can appreciate. Combining these abilities with Batson’s naive goodness, Shazam is incorruptible- something that prevents devastation of the galaxy.
2 Black Bolt
Blackagar Boltagon was born to Inhuman parents but they conducted experiments while he was still in the womb. It took 19 years to control his powers and even then, he scarcely opens his mouths.
The sonic blasts emanating from his vocals can level an entire city and wipe out entire civilizations. It is said if Black Bolt utilizes his full potential he can carve the planet in two.
Now the Man of Steel himself. Kal-El was transported to Earth where he grew up as Superman under our yellow Sun. The same sun and earth’s low gravity gave him powers beyond belief.
From moving entire planets to fighting true Gods, enduring a supernova to hyperspace travel- he has done it all and appeared unscathed every time. Were it not for magic/Kryptonite, the Justice League would have been redundant.
All these superheros are popular and are bestowed with incredible superpowers. Which one is your favorite do let us know in the comments section.
